Bowie 'had a bigger influence than the Beatles'

Tributes have continued to pour in for David Bowie, with Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes praising him for being "fascinating, funny, sharp eloquent and very caring" and his biographer claiming he was 'bigger than the Beatles'.

Rhodes said Bowie's influence was responsible for Duran Duran's existence - and said he had "owned the 70s".

He was speaking at a GQ celebratory dinner, where the magazine's editor and Bowie biographer Dylan Jones also paid his respects - speaking of the singer's impact not only on the music industry, but also on the world of fashion.

He told ITV News he believed Bowie had had a bigger impact on arts culture than the Beatles.

Although The Beatles reinvented music in the 60s, what Bowie did - he reinvented genres. He reinvented the music scene.

He had a huge influence on the fashion scene too and I think if you look at all the designers showing here this week in London Collections Men I don’t think you’ll find any of them whose lives haven’t been changed in some way by David Bowie.
