There have been "a number of weather-related fatalities" during Storm Desmond, the environment secretary has said.
Liz Truss said the deaths were "caused or exacerbated" by flooding or poor weather in recent days.
On Sunday, a body was found in the River Kent in Cumbria.
In a statement in the House of Commons, Ms Truss expressed her "deepest sympathies" for the families and friends of those killed.
"It is a tragic reminder of how dangerous these conditions can be," she said.
