Two different Islamist groups claim responsibility for Mali attack

Two different Islamist jihadi groups have said they were behind massacre at a hotel in Mali.

President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta said 19 people were killed and a further seven injured after militants seized 170 hostages at the Radisson Blu in Bamako.

Two Islamist militants were also killed.

Belgian diplomat among Mali victims

A Belgian diplomat has been confirmed as among those killed in the Mali attack.

A statement on the Belgian government website confirmed Geoffrey Dieudonné, first counselor in the leadership of the administration of Parliament, had been in Bamako, Mali.

A statement on the government website said: "At that time, the precise circumstances of his tragic death are not yet known.

"Parliament expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr Dieudonné"
