Switzerland has banned the sale of some Volkswagen (VW) diesel-engine models temporarily in the wake of the emissions scandal.

It follows revelations that 11 million vehicles worldwide had been fitted with software to cheat emissions tests.

The move could potentially affect 180,000 cars in the Euro5 emission category that have not yet been sold or registered. It includes all VW models as well as Seat, Skoda and others in the VW group.

Porsche sports car chief Matthias Mueller has been named as the new chief executive of the group after Martin Winterkorn resigned.
