Hajj crush death toll rises to over 750

The death toll following a crush at the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia is now 769 and the number of injured has risen to 934.

Witnesses claimed police had closed entrances and exits to the pilgrims' camp, making the disaster inevitable, while Iran's Supreme Leader accused authorities of "mismanagement".

King Salman has ordered an immediate review into safety procedures.

Around 25,000 British Muslims have made Hajj pilgrimage

The Foreign Office has said it stands "ready to provide support to any British nationals" with around 25,000 understood to have made the Hajj pilgrimage.

Travel association Abta estimated the number of Muslims who have spent between £4,000-5,000 to travel from the UK to Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage.

Foreign Office officials have confirmed the British Embassy in Riyadh and British Consulate-General in Jeddah are "urgently seeking more information" about British nationals.
