EU 'backs military action' against people smugglers

EU member states have reportedly approved plans for military action against people smugglers in the Mediterranean, AFP news agency reports.

It is said to include seizing and destroying boats in a bid to break up networks operating from Libya, sources said.

Over 2,000 migrants have died so far this year trying to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe.
