PM urges EU nations to fund refugee camps around Syria

David Cameron has visited camps in Lebanon and Jordan to meet Syrian refugees who have fled their country's civil war.

The Prime Minister has called on other EU countries to "step up to the plate" and follow Britain's lead by funding refugee camps around Syria.

Mr Cameron said there was a "direct connection" between shortfalls in aid for camps in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey and the influx of migrants into Europe.

PM: UK will take 'thousands more' Syrian refugees

The Prime Minister has announced that the UK will provide resettlement for thousands more Syrian refugees from camps bordering the war-torn country.

Downing Street have yet to reveal any exact numbers, but will keep its policy under review.

ITV News' Deputy Political Editor Chris Ship reports:

David Cameron also said that the UK will continue to work with partners to tackle the conflict in Syria, will target people smuggling gangs and will continue with search and rescue operations at sea.
