Thai investigators do not know if the man suspected of bombing a Bangkok shrine is still in the country, police said on Wednesday.

The nationality of the suspect, who police believe was part of a "network", also remains a mystery.

Police chief Somyot Pumpanmuang told reporters: "He didn't do it alone, for sure. It's a network."

He added: "I don't suspect one person, I suspect many people.

"I am confident that there are Thais involved but I am not saying it is just Thais or that there are foreigners."

Chief Pumpanmuang said it was not clear if a small second explosion on Tuesday was linked to the Erawan shrine attack.
