Former QPR captain Joey Barton heading to West Ham

Former QPR captain Joey Barton is undergoing a medical at West Ham today, according to Sky Sports News.

The 32 year-old midfielder is a free agent after being released by Rangers following their relegation to the Championship last season.

It would be a good move for the ex-Newcastle man, who had been linked with Leeds United earlier in the summer.

Barton was in the stands for Bournemouth's first ever Premier League match against Aston Villa on Saturday, sparking rumours of a move to the top flight's other claret and blue club.

Some of his old team-mates at QPR, meanwhile, suffered defeat on their opening day in the Championship after a disappointing display at Charlton.
