The UK and France have announced new measures to prevent "undocumented migrants" entering the Channel Tunnel by tackling the criminals who smuggle them to Calais and across the Channel.

The plans include the creation of a joint police operation aimed at tackling the people-smugglers who profit from the desperation of those trying to reach British shores.

Migrant dies after 1,500 try to storm Channel Tunnel

A migrant died last night after 1,500 people tried to storm the Channel Tunnel in Calais, operator Eurotunnel said today.

A spokesman for Eurotunnel said the migrant died as the group tried to enter the French terminal site.

The man was believed to be a Sudanese national in his late 20s who died when he was reportedly hit by a truck as he tried to climb over a shuttle.

I can confirm that one migrant died last night after 1,500 tried to storm the Eurotunnel.
