The UK and France have announced new measures to prevent "undocumented migrants" entering the Channel Tunnel by tackling the criminals who smuggle them to Calais and across the Channel.

The plans include the creation of a joint police operation aimed at tackling the people-smugglers who profit from the desperation of those trying to reach British shores.

A spokesman for the operator confirmed that "a number of people were injured" and fences were damaged as migrants tried to board the shuttles.

"This is an issue that is a really for the Government to sort out," the spokesman said as he described storming of the fences as "an almost nightly occurrence."

"We need them to stop the migrant flow from Calais but it appears to be too much for them to handle."

It is an almost nightly occurrence - we're trying to run a travel business here.
