More than 1,400 suspects have been investigated by police probing historical child sexual abuse allegations against VIPs including politicians and celebrities, police say.

More than 1,400 suspects have been investigated by police probing historical child sexual abuse allegations against VIPs including politicians and celebrities, police say.
Out of the 1,433 suspects identified:
- 216 are now dead
- 135 come from the world of TV, film or radio
- 43 are from the music industry
- 76 are politicians, local-level and national
- 7 are from the world of sport
The figures were released by Operation Hydrant, a group set up by the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) to investigate links between child sex abuse committed by "prominent public persons".
They are taken from police forces in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Police said the number of reports were increasing on an "almost daily basis".
