John Whittingdale named as Culture Secretary
John Whittingdale has been named as the new Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, David Cameron has confirmed.
He replaces Sajid Javid who is widely expected to be promoted to Business Secretary.
Last year, Whittingdale said the BBC licence fee was "worse than a poll tax" and must be "tweaked immediately".
In his new role, Mr Whittingdale will oversee BBC charter renewal.
The current charter runs until December 31, 2016.
