Climber on Everest describes avalanche aftermath

Climber Arjun Vajpai, who was at a base camp in Makalu when the Nepal earthquake struck, has sent a mobile phone video to Reuters news agency describing the scene shortly after an avalanche was triggered by the tremors.

He said he was concerned about team members who had climbed higher up the mountain just before the 7.9 magnitude quake stuck.

Most of our team is okay, we are doing well, some of our team members just moved up today towards camp 1 and camp 2. We still do not have any report from them, we are trying to get in touch with them.

– Climber Arjun Vajpai

Makalu base camp is used by several expedition groups to climb Everest via Sherpani Pass.
