Lufthansa 'under no obligation' to report co-pilot's condition

Lufthansa has indicated that it was under no obligation to report the fact that Germanwings co-pilot Andreas Lubitz has suffered from depression to Germany's national aviation authority.

Analysis of a second black box confirmed Lubitz deliberately crashed Flight 4U 9525 into the French Alps, investigators said.

The data indicated that the pilot modified automatic settings to increase the speed of the plane as it descended, France BEA said.

Lufthansa offers 50,000 euros to families after plane crash

German airline giant Lufthansa has offered to pay up to 50,000 euros (£36,500) per passenger on the plane which crashed earlier this week.

A total of 150 people were killed on the plane operated by Germanwings, a subsidiary of Lufthansa.

The airline said it would provide the money as "immediate financial assistance" to those who lost loved ones.
