Thousands gather for reburial of Richard III at Leicester Cathedral

Thousands of people have gathered to pay their respects at a ceremony to mark the reburial of the last Plantagenet king, Richard III.

The coffin bearing the former monarch's remains, which were discovered under a council car park in 2012, will be lowered into a tomb of Swaledale stone at Leicester Cathedral.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, wife of Prince Edward, was joined by the current Duke of Gloucester, who is the patron of the Richard III Society.

Thousands of people lined the streets of Leicester to see a procession ahead of the service, which is being held at the city's cathedral.
