Eddie Redmayne wins Oscar as Birdman named Best Picture

'Birdman' has won the coveted Best Picture award at the Oscars along with honours for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.

Britain's Eddie Redmayne took the best actor Oscar for his portrayal as physicist Stephen Hawking in the biographical movie 'The Theory of Everything.'

Julianne Moore claimed the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in 'Still Alice'.

Redmayne dedicates Oscar to 'all those battling ALS'

British Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne dedicated his award to all those people battling motor neurone disease (known as ALS in America), the illness which has left Professor Stephen Hawking in a wheelchair.

Redmayne paid passionate tribute to the Hawking family after he won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of the famous physicist in The Theory of Everything.

I don't think I'm capable of articulating quite how I feel right now. I'm fully aware that I'm a lucky, lucky man.

This award belongs to all of those people around the world battling ALS.

I will be its custodian and I promise you I will look after him, I will polish him, I will answer his beck and call and wait on him hand and foot.
