David Cameron chairs Cobra meeting on IS threat

David Cameron was briefed today about the ongoing hunt for Islamic State (IS) militants responsible for the murders of Western hostages.

The Prime Minister chaired a session of the Government's Cobra committee where he was updated by intelligence chiefs about their progress in trying to track down militants responsible for killing westerners including US hostage Peter Kassig.

US conducts 31 strikes against Isis over weekend

The US military said it has conducted a number of airstrikes against Islamic State militant fighters inside Iraq and Syria over the weekend.

Since Friday:

  • The US military conducted 11 strikes since Friday against the Islamic State in Syria, US Central command said.
  • The US military carried out 20 airstrikes in Iraq, according to US Central Command.
