U2 singer Bono injures arm in cycling accident

U2 singer Bono is set to undergo surgery after injuring his arm in a “cycling spill” in New York.

The band have been forced to pull out of a scheduled appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon due to the accident, with his bandmates revealing the frontman needs an operation to fix the injury.

A statement on the group's website said Bono hurt his arm while cycling through Central Park Credit: PA

A message posted on the group’s website by guitarist The Edge, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen did not say when or how the accident happened, but said they were sure Bono would make a “full recovery”.

It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time - we're one man down. Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it.

We're sure he'll make a full recovery soon, so we'll be back! Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding.

It marks another unlucky event for the singer, after German authorities revealed last week that his private plane had lost a hatch as it was coming in to land at Berlin’s airport.
