EU exit 'would leave UK facing lesser future'

The UK will face a "lesser future" it it leaves the European Union, Sir John Major has warned.

Speaking on BBC 1's Andrew Marr Show, the former prime minister said: "I really would not want to be the prime minister who had to explain that we are sinking to a much lower level of relevance in the world outside the EU, with the doors in the corridors of power being closed to us."

He called on other European states to agree to measures that would help curb the number of migrants coming to Britain from within the union.
