Dame Judi Dench has no plans to retire

Dame Judi Dench has said she has no plans to retire from the stage or screen after 60 years in the business.

The 79-year-old said her family had tried to persuade her of the joys of retirement but that it held no interest for her.

In an interview with You magazine, she said: "I await the next offers on stage and screen with interest. My eldest brother Peter is always trying to persuade me of the joys of retirement, but that plays no part in any of my future plans.

"Since my husband Michael died in 2001, I have worked constantly. Friends and colleagues are very sustaining: they are the people. who get you through it - it's no good to be on your own."
