Cornwall surfer deaths: Rescuer 'died saving others'

One of the three people killed in a tragic surfing accident in Cornwall may have been trying to save a group of teenagers in difficulty.

Speaking to the BBC, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution said the initial reports suggest one the casualties had entered the waves in a rescue attempt.

Four injured surfers described as 'walking wounded'

Four of the seven surfers caught in a rip current at Mawgan Porth beach in Cornwall have been described as "walking wounded."

A spokeswoman for the South Western Ambulance Service said:

We took the call at 13.31 [pm] and initial call was that seven people had been caught in a rip tide at Mawgan Porth beach.

Four patients were what we describe as walking wounded. They were taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

Three patients were sadly deceased - a female in her 30s, a male in his 50s and a male in his 20s to 30s."
