10-year-old wins £4.8m over negligent hospital care
A 10-year-old boy has won a £4.8m payout after negligent treatment at a private hospital led to him needing a kidney transplant.
Lucas Tuppeny was born with a bowel defect and required a colostomy.
A series of subsequent medical errors at Bupa Cromwell Hospital in west London led to renal failure and left Lucas needing dialysis treatment from the age of six months.
Lucas, who now lives with his mother in the US, has already had 28 procedures with a total of 149 days in hospital.
Judge Richard Parkes paid tribute to the "extraordinary devotion" of Lucas' mother Therese and the "splendid young man" she has raised.
