Mark Reckless on course for Ukip win in Rochester

Tory defector Mark Reckless is on course to win back his Commons seat for Ukip in the upcoming by-election in Rochester and Strood, according to a new opinion poll.

The survey by Survation for the Mail on Sunday has Ukip nine points ahead of the Conservatives in the constituency.

Farage: There's no such thing as a safe seat'

Ukip leader Nigel Farage said his party can win "virtually anywhere" in the General Election next year.

"There's now no such thing as a safe seat, we have got the potential, if we get the campaign right, to win virtually anywhere," Mr Farage said at the party's conference after showing several polls illustrating the rise in Ukip's support.

Ukip will be focusing its resources into constituencies where it has a real chance of winning the election next year, Mr Farage said.

He added that Ukip is on the brink on holding the balance of power.
