Putin discusses possible co-operation against Islamic State

Vladimir Putin has discussed working with international "partners" to take on Islamic State militants, according to Russian media.

The Russian president was reported to have talked about the issue with his Security Council today.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov would not say which countries Russia may be willing to work with.

Obama: We will hunt down terrorists wherever they are

President Obama vowed to "hunt down terrorists who threaten our country wherever they are" as he authorised air strikes against Islamic State militants in Syria.

Outlining his "comprehensive and sustained" strategy to combat the threat of IS militants - who have murdered two American journalists - President Obama said the group would be "degraded and destroyed".

"This is a core principle of my presidency: if you threaten America you will find no safe haven," he added.
