Putin discusses possible co-operation against Islamic State

Vladimir Putin has discussed working with international "partners" to take on Islamic State militants, according to Russian media.

The Russian president was reported to have talked about the issue with his Security Council today.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov would not say which countries Russia may be willing to work with.

US and Saudi Arabia 'agree need to arm Syria rebels'

Barack Obama and the King of Saudi Arabia have agreed on the need to train and equip "moderate" Syrian opposition in the fight against Islamic State.

President Obama has proposed legislation to Congress on the ability to arm foreign fighters against the militant group, a move which was welcomed by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, the White House said.

"Both leaders agreed that a stronger Syrian opposition is essential to confronting extremists like ISIL as well as the Assad regime, which has lost all legitimacy," a readout of the call said.
