NHS to fund Ashya King's treatment in Czech Republic

The NHS is to pay for five-year-old brain tumour patient Ashya King's proton beam therapy treatment in the Czech Republic.

His parents Brett and Naghemeh King sparked an international police hunt after they took their son out of Southampton General Hospital and travelled to Prague for the treatment which was not available for him on the NHS.

Proton therapy 'first choice to treat cancer in children'

Proton therapy for cancer treatment is considered by some medical professionals to be more suited to child patients, as it appears to have fewer side effects and targets the cancerous cells in a more precise way than other treatments.

The clinic in Prague where Ashya King's parents want him to be treated said today they have received his notes and are ready to treat him, after he completes another round of chemotherapy.
