Doctors, nurses and surgeons are among the team set to fly to the region in the next 48 hours to "play a crucial role" in treating the victims of the fighting.

The team will be based with Medical Aid for Palestinians at Al Mokassed hospital in East Jerusalem, before moving into Gaza once access is possible.

The announcement comes after Israeli forces and Hamas clashed in fresh fighting following the end of a three-day ceasefire.
