Rescue helicopter finds Jedward stranded on sandbank

Pop twins Jedward had to be rescued yesterday after they became trapped on a sandbank in Dublin.

The former X Factor stars got into difficulty while out walking with a relative near Malahide, the Irish Sun reported.

The boys' mother, Susanna Grimes, alerted the coastguard after she was contacted by her sons who were getting "more and more desperate"as the tide continued to rise.

A helicopter was used to locate the pair, before a ten-man Coast Guard team waded through up to six-feet of water to come to their rescue.

The pop duo were "very badly shaken", according to their mother, and they later admitted the incident could have ended in tragedy.

John, 22, told the Irish Sun: “What we want to get across is how quickly this all happened. This got out of hand before we even realised. We would urge young people to be very careful around water and the sea. This could have been a tragedy but for the good work of the Coast Guard.”
