European leaders will review the economic area's agenda after voters "sent a strong message" in the election which saw a surge from Eurosceptic parties, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy has said.

Farage rules out EU deal with France's Front National

Nigel Farage has told ITV News Ukip will not unite with Front National, the right-wing French party led Marine Le Pen, and the party will instead seek to join forces with parties that have views "consistent with classical liberal democracy".

Asked who he would recommend as next European Commission President, Mr Farage joked: "I was thinking of throwing my own hat into the ring."
