An A-level student deported back to Mauritius last night has told ITV News she is alone in the country that her family fled in 2011. Yashika Bageerathi was flown back despite pleading with ministers to let her stay until after her exams.
Mauritian student Yashika Bageerathi is "very distressed and worried" after learning that she will be deported tonight, a spokesman for her school said.
The 19-year-old is being taken from Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre in Bedfordshire to Heathrow airport for an Air Mauritius flight at 9pm.
A spokesman for Oasis Academy Hadley in Enfield, north London, said: "She is on her way in the van but I really hope we can keep her here.
"We're encouraging everyone to tweet Air Mauritius and to phone them to stop this."
Speaking to ITV News Yashika Bageerathi said she was all alone and did not know what she was going to do without her family and friends.
Speaking to her mother as she boarded she said she was scared about landing in the country she fled in 2011.
Speaking to ITV News Yashika Bageerathi appealed directly to the Immigration Minister and the Home Secretary to remain in the UK.
