David Cameron and Alex Salmond have clashed over the future of Scotland's oil and gas industry as they held rival Cabinet meetings within a few miles of each other. The Prime Minister warned that leaving the UK would harm the key sector.
The future for an independent Scotland would be "fraught with risk", Treasury Chief Secretary Danny Alexander has warned.
In a Mail on Sunday article, Mr Alexander dismissed Alex Salmond's claims that Westminster's politicians were "bullying" the Scottish Government and backed pop veteran David Bowie's high profile intervention in the independence debate. He said:
David Cameron is expected to claim that only the UK Government has the financial muscle to boost oil production in the North Sea.
