Princess Diana 'leaked royal phone book to NotW'

Princess Diana leaked information about the Prince of Wales to "an ally" in the press in order to "take on" her estranged husband, former News of the World reporter Clive Goodman told the phone hacking trial.

Brooks describes early journalism career at Old Bailey

Rebekah Brooks got her first break into journalism at a paper called The Post in the 1980s where she worked as a freelance runner.

She moved to London but the paper, which had been set up by Eddie Shah, closed after just a couple of months. She was then hired as a researcher by News Of The World on one of their magazines.

She told the jury she had no formal journalist training, apart from a short course while she was working at News of The World.

She understood very quickly the importance of contacts and sources saying "right from the beginning there was huge emphasis on developing contacts - because that was your trade

She was promoted to features writer on try Sunday magazine. She told the jury that she concentrated on lifestyle, celebrities and "real life stories". Shshe said "I enjoyed doing it. I must have been alright - I kept my job."
