Labour has held the seat of Wythenshawe and Sale East parliamentary by-election. Ukip polled in second place, bearing the Conservatives into third. The by-election was brought about by the sudden death of the serving MP Paul Goggins.
Ukip leader Nigel Farage has described polling second in the Wythenshawe and Sale East by-election as "massive progress".
