Met Office red warning for 'exceptionally strong winds'

The Met Office has issued a red warning - the highest on the scale - for "exceptionally strong winds" in western parts of Wales and then north-west England.

Widespread gusts of 80mph are expected with some possibly reaching 100mph

"Winds of this strength can cause widespread structural damage, bringing down trees and also leading to loss of power supplies," the Met Office warned.

The warning will be in force between 1:30pm until 9pm tonight.
