Judge 'suffered over Amanda Knox verdict'

The judge who presided over Amanda Knox's second murder conviction says he suffered over the verdict but that he and the jury agreed about her guilt in the death of British student Meredith Kercher.

Timeline of Meredith Kercher case

  • 1 November 2007 21-year-old Meredith Kercher is murdered in the Perguia flat she shared with Amanda Knox and other students sometime between 8:45pm and 12:50am.
  • 20 November Rudy Guede, an Ivory Coast national who has lived in Perguia since he was five, is arrested in Germany. Patrick Lumumba is released.
  • 29 October 2008 Guede sentenced found guilty in a "fast track" trial and sentenced to 30 years. Knox and Sollecito charged with murder and sexual assault.
  • 4 December 2009 Knox sentenced to 26 years in prison and Sollecito is handed 25. Guede's sentence was reduced to 16 years on appeal later that month.
  • 3 October 2011 Knox and Sollecito are both acquitted of the murder and sexual assault of Meredith Kercher. Knox returns to her native Seattle.
