Environment Agency: 'Could have done better over flooding'

The Environment Agency chairman has admitted to ITV News that "we could have done better" in tackling the flooded areas in Somerset. But Lord Smith defended the agency's priorities, saying they were working with a "purse that was not limitless."

PM: Somerset dredging to start 'as soon as it is practical'

The Prime Minister has confirmed the dredging of rivers in the flood-stricken Somerset Levels will start "as soon as it is practical".

David Cameron told MPs during Prime Minister's Questions that more high-volume pumps have been ordered to increase the pumping operations in the Rivers Tone and Parrett.

Mr Cameron said the Government's emergency response committee COBRA will meet again this afternoon "to explore what more we can do to help the villagers in the Somerset Levels" as the current level "is not acceptable".
