Everton boss Martinez remains up for the cup

Everton manager Roberto Martinez, who led Wigan to FA Cup glory last season, has said winning the fabled competition remains on a par with success in the Premier League.

"It’s like asking if you prefer mum or dad," he told reporters when asked to choose between them ahead of Everton's third round match against QPR tomorrow.

A debate about the competitions was sparked by Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert who said top-flight clubs could "probably" do without the cup at a stage in the season when safety or a top-four place was the priority.
