Gary Perkins was the first witness to give his evidence live at the Old Bailey in the trial of Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale for the murder of Lee Rigby. Describing the weapons, he said they resembled butchers tools.
In a previous written statement, he described the actions like a "butcher attacking a joint of meat."
In court he said the two defendants were carrying slightly different weapons. Describing one, he said: "It was like a larger butcher's cleaver."
Whilst the other weapon held by the second defendant was like a "longer, thinner blade, maybe like a butcher's carving knife".
He also described how a number of women came over to help the victim as he lay motionless on the ground. He said: "They were trying to offer some kind of comfort."
Suspects Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale deny murder.
In her only television interview since the verdict, she told ITV News that she begs forgiveness from Lee Rigby's family.
A mother and daughter who witnessed the attack on Lee Rigby have told ITV News how they are still haunted by what they saw that day.
