Prince Harry and his the Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge team have had to be evacuated from the South Pole before a forecast major Antarctic storm swept in to hit airbase Nova, where they were staying, the charity organising the event said.
Prince Harry joked that he would need to break more than his toe to avoid competing in the Walking with the Wounded polar trek.
The prince said: "I obviously tried to break my toe to get out of the trip - that was a massive fail on my part.
"Friends of mine said, 'You need to go that step further and break your leg', but I chose not to.
"My toe is probably 95% now so I'm fine, and even if I mention my toe I see Duncan turn around and laugh at me, mock me, so whatever setbacks I've had is irrelevant against these guys - it's always going to be"
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
