Hague plea to Israel over Iran
Israel should avoid taking any action that would undermine the interim nuclear deal between Iran and the international community, the Foreign Secretary William Hague has told MPs.
Israel should avoid taking any action that would undermine the interim nuclear deal between Iran and the international community, the Foreign Secretary William Hague has told MPs.
John Kerry said the measures committed to in today's deal will address the most urgent concerns about Iran's nuclear programme and the US Secretary of State outlined what the steps would entail.
Some of the measures Kerry says Iran has agreed to:
-Roll back stockpile of enriched uranium and widen the length of time possible for breakout
-Provide daily access to key facilities
-Cease enrichment of uranium over 5% and convert entire stockpile of 20% enriched uranium
-Will not increase its stockpile of lower enriched uranium over next six months.
When you consider the diplomatic mountain the US and Iran have already scaled, you get a daunting sense of the challenge ahead.
The deal between Iran and world powers looks like a breakthrough, but with six months of wrangling over details ahead, it could still fail.
The nuclear agreement between Western powers and Iran was broadly welcomed by politicians, former world leaders and Middle East experts.
