PCC attacks May for failing to back him over Plebgate

A police commissioner has attacked the Home Secretary for behaving in an "utterly indefensible" manner, when she accused him of siding with his police force over the Plebgate affair.

Ron Ball, PCC for Warwickshire spoke out as Police Minister Damian Green was addressing a conference to mark the anniversary of the first PCC elections.

He said he was "hugely disappointed" not to have had the support of senior politicians including Theresa May.

He denied he had "rushed to the defence" of his force after questions were raised about their account of a meeting with former cabinet minister Andrew Mitchell to discuss the Plebgate affair.

"From the outset, I have said what the officers said was wrong," he said.

Later, when asked about Mr Ball's comments, the Home Secretary would only say she had come to celebrate the good work done by Police and Crime Commissioners.
