Lou Reed's original recording of Perfect Day is set to enter the UK charts for the first time following a surge in sales in the wake of the musician's death on Sunday.

The 1997 version for Children In Need, featuring David Bowie and Sir Tom Jones, reached the top spot, but Reed's 1972 single never made it into the top 40.

Reed's Walk On The Wild Side, which peaked at number 10 in 1973, is currently at number 38, according to early sales predictions.

Both tracks are on course for the top 40 if current sales continue to the weekend.
