North Korean leader splurges on luxury goods
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been splurging on a number of luxury items, a new report submitted to the South Korean parliament has revealed.
The regime's luxury purchases included pets, pet food, sauna systems, maternity products, electronics and alcohol, amounting to $645.8 million in 2012, more than double the average per year spent under his father, Kim Jong-il, the Telegraph reports.
Despite the majority of his people lacking in food, medicine and access to basic services, the regime spent $30 million on alcohol alone, and $8.2 million on luxury watches.
It is likely the young leader is showering senior members of the party and military with expensive bribes in an attempt to cement his power.
