Four men convicted for the brutal gang rape and murder of a young woman on a New Delhi bus last December have been sentenced to the death penalty, Reuters reports.
Judge Yogesh Khanna, rejected lawyers' pleas for a lighter sentence for Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta and Mukesh Singh who were convicted on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old victim and a male friend were attacked as after they were lured onto an off-duty bus. They were later dumped on the roadside.
She woman later died in a Singapore hospital from internal injuries on the 29 December.
