Coastal towns across the UK are set to receive £29 million in extra funding, the Treasury announced.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, said the Coastal Communities Fund would be grown by five percent and extended until 2016.

The fund, created by the coalition in 2012, is used to invest in struggling seaside towns and villages and help them fend off high unemployment.

It is hoped funds already approved will deliver 5,000 jobs and 500 apprenticeships.

The fund is paid for by channelling money equivalent to 50 percent of the profits from the Crown Estate's marine activities.
