Wales mumps warning as measles cases continue to rise
Public Health Wales has warned that cases of mumps is now on the rise, after month of increasing measles diagnosis.
Up to the end of May 2013, there were 76 confirmed cases of mumps in Wales for the year so far, that compares with 77 cases for the whole of 2011 and 88 for the whole of 2012.
The measles outbreak centred around Swansea has now seen 1,191 cases despite more than 50,000 MMR vaccinations in the area, although the increase in cases has started to slow.
Public Health Wales has been running a campaign to try and increase MMR coverage but has reminded parents that two doses are needed for full coverage.
