Turkish police have launched a crackdown on anti-government protesters in Istanbul after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned the demonstrators to evacuate in a speech at a rally in the capital Ankara.

Minister: 1,750 arrests during protests across Turkey

Turkey's interior minister, Muammer Guler, said there have been 1,750 people arrested since the latest anti-government protests began on 28th May.

However, he insisted most of these people have since been released.
