Zimbabwe minister: We only had £138 in the bank
Zimbabwe's Finance Minister has given a surprising insight into the country's finances by admitting that, at one point, there was only £138 left in the bank. Speaking to the BBC's Focus On Africa Tendai Biti said there wasn't much left in Government coffers last week after paying civil servants.
Tendai Biti said the country's delicate financial situation only lasted a day, with £19 million paid in 24 hours later. In the past, the Government has complained that diamond mining companies have failed to pay their revenues.
