US Senate confirms Kerry as new Secretary of State

John Kerry has been confirmed as President Barack Obama's new Secretary of State by the Senate.

The 2004 presidential candidate will replace Hillary Clinton after receiving broad support from both fellow Democrats and Republicans.

As voting continued, he had received well over 60 votes in favour of his confirmation, and just two against it.
